2.0 to 2.2
 

hello ,

Finally , i will upgrade my 2.0E to a 2.2 S engine (like the waynes 's book recommandation ) and actually I 'm trying to have all the parts which are still missing ...
but My question is between the 2.0 and 2.2 Is there a difference in the flywheel dimension ?(215 to 225 mm) ?
If It is yes , can I put a 225 mm flywheel with my 2.0 crank (2.2 crank is the same ) ? do you recommend me for reliability a lightweight flywheel (aluminium ) or a stock flywheel a bit lighter because I will balance my crank and the rods.

My other question : Is there a modification of the clutch design (due to the power increase) ? If yes it is possible without any problems(because the gearbox is the same ) to upgrade ?

Yes, the 2.2 used the 225mm flywheel, but a 215mm flywheel should work and will bolt right onto any 6 bold crankshaft, up to a 2.7. I've got a 215 on my 2.8 right now. The stock 215 clutch can handle up to 180 ft-lbs, so you may be fine. You can alway get 69 911S clutch, or a aftermarket clutch, but they will be $1K or more vs. the $250 stock clutch.

I hear that you can modify an early 901 trans to use the pull-type clutches used on the 225mm flywheel, but I don't know what is involved. If someone knows , I would be interested too.

All 2.0/2.2/2.4/2.7/3.0 Turbo/3.0 EuroCarrera use the same flywheel mounting pattern. When doing engine changes, it's usually advantageous to stick with the same flywheel - I would just bolt your 2.0 flywheel up and use it...
