Case plugs: Ok to tap and use threaded plugs?
Hi all,
Since I can't find anyone who can sell me the two case plugs my machine shop removed to clean the case, is it ok to tap the holes in the case and use a threaded insert? Anyone done this before? Seems to make perfect sense to me. Any drawbacks? Thanks Tristan |
Normally a machine shop would just make new plugs from some aluminum stock.
The first time I had the machine shop clean the case in their tank; remove the plugs, clean the galleries and make new plugs. They didn't have the aluminum for the plugs so I supplied some. The 2nd time (different machine shop) I had threaded plugs put in. They machine shop had to modify the plugs do the wouldn't stick too far into the passages. If you are using a shop that is unfamiliar with Porsches, specify which plugs to remove. -Chris |
Doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. I'd still cover them with some JB Weld to seal them off...

Thanks all.
