98mm Max Moritz (70.4 crank type)

Hi all,

Can anyone help me with some advice please? I may be buying some Mahle, 98mm, Max Moritz pistons (these are for a 70.4 crank ie a 3.0 ltr SC motor). I know these are for the CIS set up but I am going to be using weber 40 IDAs, is this still a good idea or is there no real gain ? Surely still increasing the CC will still prove a good motor even with the webers.

Also what cams have people used on this set up? I have a set of early S cams but have read that the valve pockets may not be deep enough. Do 964 cams offer a good torque curve for this set up and are these a direct fit in the 3.0ltr cam housings.

I do not intend to go twin plug, but I am really after a more plug and play set up ? I also already have an early SS exhaust set up with twin outlets.

Any advice is much appreciated. I would really like to hear from people whom have done this and maybe even have this set up in the their car right now.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Doug,

Thats some good info, but I really need to know if anyone is running carbs with the 98mm, Max Moritz pistons for the 3.0ltr creating a short stroke 3.2. These are the wedge shape ones for CIS but I would like to use them with carbs.

Anyone ?

Wayne ?

Thanks Wayne.

I have offered to buy some S grind cams, so fingers crossed.

I have bought a pair of Andial 4 bearing S cams from a fellow member. Does anyone know if there maybe clearence issues with them and the Max Moritz pistons and if so how much to have the pockets machined by ?

Thanks in advance

Thanks Wayne,

I aim to document this rebuild as I know the short stroke 3.2 seems to be getting alot of attention recently. Engine is a 79 SC 3.0ltr. Will have 40 idas, and early SS exhaust. It will also be set up on a rolling road (US - dyno) so I will also get some figures on what this set up produces.

Thanks again

Alan

I know have the 98mm Max Moritz set up but need a complete new set of rings.

So I now have all the parts.... as soon as my 3.0ltr core arrives its all systems go.
