Question Opinions on getting a crankshaft repaired after a spun bearing

What's the general consensus on having a cranshaft repaired after a spun bearing?

Reason I ask:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2463756658

Obviously without an inspection by a machine shop it's a crap shoot, but if inspected and repairable are there any drawbacks?

I assume repair would involve polishing down the wear, resulting in the journal being smaller/out of tolerance.

Thanks, Gordo

I had the same situation. I sent my crank to crankshaft specialists and they hard chromed just the one journal and ground it to spec.

It worked for me with about 5K hard track miles.

i've seen spun journals that were pretty smooth looking, but were worn almost two undersizes. the description doesn't say if it's just scuffed, or what.

what troubles me about that crank is that it hasn't been professionally inspected but ollie's can fix it.

I don't think any machinist would tell you he could fix something without inspecting it.

That's interesting. I have a crank in my garage (2.7) that spun #3. It needs to be re-ground. I didn't realise folks would buy it. I got a std/std one from a friend so didn't bother re-grinding mine. eBay here I come!
