Average price of CIS P&Cs

I am looking to put a 2.7 CIS engine in my 914. I found a engine that has had a top end rebuild and was left outside. Some water got into the cylinders and rusted. The engine is a '76 complete with CIS, fan, alt etc. I am told that all I need to do is replace the P&Cs and I should be good to go.
I am wondering what the average price is for a good used set is?
Also, i am told by a friend that I should consider this engine a core and I should split the case, but once I split it the case it will warp and i need to align bore.
What would the average value of this engine be?

Thanks
- rob

Rob,

I think your friend was looking out for your best interests and gave you stellar advice,.....

911 engines don't generally rust since there are few ferrous parts, however they are still subject to corrosion and anything that been outside needs to be totally disassembled and carefully inspected.

I would also regard such a motor simply as a core.

In my long process of restoring my 74, I'm now contemplating throwing in a set of 9.5:1 compression pistons while I have the motor out. If so, my stock non-s pistons would be available. Stock cam would be available as well. If there's any interest email or pm me. The motor has 46k true, non race miles on it. Pistons should be perfect (not out yet).

Regards,
MK

Don't mean to sound like a crab, but how can you put different pistons into used bores? This sounds like a recipe for trouble.

I passed on buying the engine so I am no longer in need of p&c. The engine is now for sale in the classified. It can be a good deal for the right person. FS: 76 911s 2.7L Engine $1100
