cam housing

I have wayne's book but it doesn't cover dealing with the different type of cam nt/assembly I have (3.0). I have the nut off but am having difficulty getting the gasket? undrneath off so I can remove the housing.

Are you asking about the round plate with 3 holes in it behind the sprocket? That plate is held in there by a large O-ring. They'll pop out with a little careful pulling in the screw holes. I think you can use the cam to pop it out also.

EDIT: Check out this thread

There is a key on the cam holing the thing together and I don't want to break anything. Nothing I have read shows this or talks about how to deeal with it.

The woodruff key must be removed first. I put a rag in the left chainbox or tip the motor such that if I drop the key it doesn't fall into the motor.

Sure do cover this, check the book again. I don't really quite understand your question though...

Wayne, it is a woodruff key. I never saw it mentioned but, I hope to get it out. Believe it or not, it diasassembeled that entire side with the cam still in the box.

You are having trouble with the woodruff key? Just stick a small screwdriver against it and tap it out with a hammer...

markwemple 03-08-2004 07:42 PM

Where do you put the screwdriver (flathead I am supposing)?

RIght up against where the key sticks out of the cam. Make SURE that you put a rag near the chain area so it doesn't go into the motor!
