Screwed up a con-rod
 

Hi All

Well I've finally begun my rebuild with a start on the crank tonight. All went great until I inspected the final result and noticed one of my rod end caps was around the wrong way... the numbers are on opposite sides as opposed to being lined up together.

Everything feels smooth, can I leave it like this or must I do that rod again?

You have to flip that cap back the right way. If the rod bolts are stock, you'll need new fasteners for that rod too. :-(

What Chris said. And if you are using stock rod bolts and have torqued the bolts down, you are going to have to replace those two bolts. Things could be worse. You could have done what I did a couple of weeks ago and install your rebuilt engine and forget to put the ring gear on the pressure plate!

YOU CANNOT LEAVE IT THAT WAY.

Put it on properly, when that rod was built, or rebuilt if you had them done (If not, then you should have had them rebushed, resized and honed and balanced) the caps were in the proper position, if you flip them around, the parting lines will not match up evenly.

There's a thread with more info on this somewhere in the archives of this forum. Basically said the same thing though...
