911L oil pressure

If I needed to know the correct color of the fuse box cover on my 956, I'll bet you guys would be all over that! Thanks

Didn't he ask a question about what was a healthy oil pressure for his 911. Did he get flamed because it was deemed to be too pedestrian for this board?

Wow, did the origianl question and all the replies change on this? I think it's 10psi per 1K RPM. We do try to be helpful generally.

Good luck,

JP

JP,

I was looking at your rebuild site, that's almost the same engine as mine except mine is 2.7 adn MFI. Am I reading things right, did you break a head stud AFTER you put it all together? Sorry to hear that if you did.

Tristan,

Yup, I broke a head-stud 300 miles into my 2.8 engine break-in. I had reused the Dilivar studs from the previous rebuild, since they look perfect, but this was obviously a big mistake. I've installed steel 993 studs now.

Thanks,

JP

JP,

I was looking at that and thinking that your studs look identical to mine with the black epoxy coating. Well, you said yours were Dilavar - how did you know that? I thought mine may be Dilavar too but a magnet sticks to them. I'm thinking about just leaving them in the case and re-using them because I think they're the steel ones.

Sorry about hijacking this thread - we can take this off line via e-mail if you want. twhitehead@deloitte.com

Thanks
Tristan

Tristan,

My old studs failed the magnet test, so I'm sure they are Dilivar. It's funny, in Wayne's book, he shows an uncoated Dilivar Stud and a epoxy coated steel stud. My Dilivar studs were epoxy coated and my new 993 steel studs were uncoated steel. Go figure. Sorry about getting OT r356t.

That is the rule of thumb for ALL high performance engines, I've read a lot of books and talked with many engine builders and they all agree on the 10psi per 1k rpm. It's important to note however where the pressure is being read since engines are an "open" hydraulic system the idea measurement point is in the gallery between the pump output and the main bearings. Since I've never really looked closely at a 911 oiling system I'm not certain if that's possible but I do know I get higher readings if my sender is located in the position near the bellhousing as opposed to the location in the cam line.

Duly noted, I'll keep the chatter down in the future. I did my best to answer your question though. So much for the '68 911L owners club... Woops, did I make that email ararm go off again?

Is this guy for real? If so, I hope your damn alarm went off again. Oh and I can guarantee you that I will never give a serious answer to any of your questions.

E mail alarm again...the way I see it, I as a novice P builder asks the questions, then sit silently and patiently waiting for the experts to answer. If there is no answer, then I figure I need to read my books a bit deeper as the answer may be there. Or...look for an original thread. Just my .02.

Dan, do you have any pics of your car?

I assume "w/RSR" is body changes? I'd love to see what they look like.
