Engine Retrofit and Fender Questions

I'm considering putting a 2.4 liter MFI engine into my 1967 911. What type of modifications to the existing fuel and electrical systems on the car would be required to do this? My understanding is MFI is not a loop-type fuel injection system (so I shouldn't have to install a return fuel line) and the electrical should be the same. Is this correct?

Is there a way to tell what year the front fenders are on a 911 w/o removing them? My car has some later model parts from a 1976 on it and this may include the fenders. I want to get some original '67 headlight lenses to put back on but don't know if these will install on later fenders or not.

MFI is indeed a loop system, there is a pressurized return feed through the tunnel into the tank. You will need an early tank with return or a late CIS tank with a bit of creative fitting adaptation. Also will need the Bosch electric fuel supply pump that feeds the mechanical injectin pump. There is an oil supply to the MFI pump run off an adapter at the pressure sender, you'll need the line and the adapter. There is also a return line that is dumped into the breather, you'll need the MFI-specific breather cover. Note there is an alternate setup in which the pump receives a fresh fill of oil which is changed periodically, and there are no feed/return lines.

Other stuff that occurs to me are: Stop switch wiring on the intake manifold, wiring to the solenoid on the injection pump, and wiring to the cold start solenoid at the fuel filter console. Not sure how much, if any, of that wiring would be 'pre-plumbed' on your '67, and how much wiring would need to be redone. I am sure there are some other tidbits I've left out.

If you go through with the project, I've got a complete harness from a 2.4E if you need it.

Thanks for the info and MFI education Dave. This sounds like much more of a project than I am willing to do at this point. Making all those modifications and parts purchases makes rebuilding the 2.7 liter with carbs that's already in it look better and better.
