Final stages of engine re-installation----oil line problem....help

Got my motor back in after the winter rebuild (2.2L back into a 1971 roller the PO had a 2.7 in) I ordered the oil line from the metal line to the oil tank. (see below) only to find the attachment to the tank is wrong. My metal line runs underneath the bell housing, not around the back of the engine. I thought I was home free with this new rubber line. I appears I have the front half of the 2.7 metal line into back half of the 71 oil tank. I am trying to use the line I bought from our host to go fwd to the metal line. It doesn't work. Fits to the metal line but is too big to screw onto the tank. Any ideas...

The size of the fitting on a '71 oil tank is smaller than the one used on '73 and latter tanks. You can either replace your oil tank with a 73 or latter tank, or use an adapter to go from your oil tank to the line show (What I did), or use the earlier oil line all the way from the engine to the tank. I think that only the long soft line is available now. The problem with that is you will have to back date the oil fitting on you engine case to the early small version to use that long hose.

Long soft hose is 901.107.331.12 (From case to tank, runs over trans)
or, the hard line is 901.107.720.01 (May be unobtainable)
The early case adapter is 999.136.008.00

All appear to be available at PP.

Good luck

JP, Sounds like the fix . How easy is it to get the hard line out of the engine while installed with the heat exchangers still in place, any idea

I have never been able to get the hard line out without removing a heat exchanger. There is no real access to the oil fitting on the case. You only need to remove the left hand heat exchanger though. It can definitely be done with the engine in the car.

Thanks JP. I'll order the long hose and adapter from our host first thing tomorrow.
