'76 911 how far to rebuild?

I have to change the clutch on my '76 911 Targa (Euro). What are the things I should do in order of importance while the motor is out? 65,000 miles. Tensioners, rings, cylinder studs, etc?

Just want to keep reliable and not spend a ton of $. May take to the track from time to time in the future. Not a racer. Possibly add suspension stuff at a later time.

Thanx

If you want to keep the cost down, just do the clutch, or buy a Datsun... 65K might not bee too bad, depending on what has been done before. Do you have any symptoms that make you feel you need to do the rings, studs, etc? If you get to the rings on a 2.7, you'll probably need to go all the way... Yes, do the tensioners first. Read the book.

Good luck,

JP

Don't tear into it unless you plan on doing a lot. If it is acting fine don't worry. I would either put collars on the current tensioners or replace. I would say however, I'm not a fan of the carreras but if the mod that is being researched becomes available, I may change my mind. I would just put the $20 collars on for piece of mind and have fun. Make sure that everything on the clutch side is fine and resurface the flywheel and replace the rear main seal.
