finding a single p/c?

I am eyeing a 2.7L to rebuild. It has nickasils. However one P/C is severely damaged. Is it hard to find a single p/c or will I be stuck buying a whole set?

You could have the cylinder repaired. I know here in Australia the people replating my nikasil cylinders also do repairs. What's the damage? If its bad gouges in the bore it may be possible to fix.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I think if I buy the engine I will see if I can have the cylinder repaired and then buy new JE pistons with a 9.8 to 1 HC to go with them.

You can find a single piston and cylinder. Engine Builder Supply (EBS Racing) is an excellent source. Many used porsche parts suppliers can usually find what your looking for. The going price for my 87 930 was $250 for one piston, pin and cylinder.

You can just buy in spec used ones. There should be lots of 2.7 P&C probably $100 or less. I should have a few left over if you are going to wait a couple month.

Single Cylinder

I was in a similar situation last year when I was rebuilding my engine. I found one cylinder with heavy markings on the cylinder wall. That was a week before Hershey Swap meet.

Fortunately, I located a single cylinder identical to mine in spec. sitting in the pile of one of the vendors. I took my caliper and double check the dimension, bore, etc.

Bring your old cylinder and visit Hershey. You'll never know what you'll find. By the way, the fellow charged me $10 for his scrap metal. That's the best $10 I ever spent for my car.

EBS and US Chrome has a nikasil replating service, costs about $125 per cylinder and they spec it to your pistons for a nice tight fit.
