How much should I pay?
Oops, just realized I should have posted this message here instead of the technical forum.
In evaluating my options for my 74 targa that has a bad engine, one of them is to just buy another 2.7L in good shape to swap it out. Question is, how much should I expect to pay for a 2.7 in good running condition? Also, what about buying another case that already has timecerts done and is in good shape (should I decide to rebuild). How much should I expect that to set me back? Thanks! Joe |
A properly done case (properly) is easily worth $1300-$1500, particularly if it's done by Walt and is a 1974 case...

Just to give you a data point I sold my 74 2.7 engine with 30k miles on a rebuild for 3500$. There was nothing wrong with it. You might find cheaper engines that are tired and leaky.
Think maybe 3.0 upgrade. You might be able to either find a descent engine or a tired one and rebuild that instead. Rebuilding the 2.7 will be 6000$ no matter how you look at it. And that's with you doing all the work. If you hand it off to a shop I would think north of 8000$ with them cutting corners. A cherry turnkey rebuild is 10k easy. Ingo |
