Desk height
I had my heads done and they removed .25, Should I get an extra set of sealing rings or is the slight difference, and additional compression, fine. This is on an '82 sc stock.

I prefer to set my desk height so that my knees clear underneath and my forearms are at right angles with my torso when typing.
Sorry, couldn't resist. I doubt you will experience any cam clearancing problems, though it would be worth it to do a quick check for peace of mind. And the light bump in CR might give you a couple added horses. If you prefer to just return to stock CR, I'd recommend buying the 0.5mm shims - two will probably work fine but using a single shim is the ideal solution. |
Is there really that little clearance on the cis engines. I tend to think of them as the "t"s of the late years, so I was thinking that the .25 wouldn't matter but mybe err on the side of safety? Nice desk joke.

No - if you re-read, I state that there is probably no clearancing problem at all, ie, plenty of clearance. I'd run through a quick clearancing exercise just to have peace of mind, though. Takes five minutes - see the recent thread on this, you can just set valve lash to zero on intake and exhaust rockers on 1 and 4, turn in 1.5 more turns, and carefully rotate the crank through 720 deg. Do each rocker separately, don't turn them all in at once. More details in other threads if you need more info.
They do seem to the "T"s of late years- I think someone here on the board once theorized that a T cam would probably work pretty well in the CIS engines. |
