The Elgin docs for the SC330 cam say 1.8-2.0mm lift @overlap with standard lash. You guys are talking 1.4-1.5. Am I missing something?

Norm. The devil is in the details. The 1.4 is for the regular SC grind. The 1.8 is the SC330 grind. Apples and oranges. Hope that clears things up. Either one will make a 930 more fun.

Back to finding my CIS air leak ARGGGGGG..

I wish they had offered me the same info after spending $900:(

It stands to reason that someone buying SC cams for their turbo is looking for low-end torque!

How do these SC cams compare to a 964 NA grind? I'am thinking of using this in my 3 litre turbo

camgrinder 05-17-2004 01:57 PM

The 964 cams would have less power off boost. The 964 cams will move the point where you build boost higher in the Rpm band verus the SC cams. They will also have more power on boost.
Porsche specs for the SC cam range from .9mm to 1.7mm depending on the year and model. 1.4 mm is a good number for a turbo. The higher the number (1.7) the further advanced the camshaft is.
The Sport-SC cams is more aggresive than the stock SC cam. It has more lift at top dead center. Thats why we specify 1.8-2.0 mm.

Does anyone know where I can get more information on the K27 turbos? I have checked Rennlist and 911turbo.com.

John,
There is another web site you may consider. I believe they were discussing various turbocharger maps out there for the 930, both KK and Garrett.

Contact Stephen at imagine auto. He knows his stuff, and is a great guy to talk turbo with. No hype or name brand tuner BS.

Thanks for all the information and links.
I dont see a need for a smaller than SC cam. I did come up with something but it would only be applicable to a fairly stock 930 without a k27 upgraded turbo.
Depending on which k27 turbo the SC, 330Sc or the 964 would work fine.
Is anyone considering an upgrade to the 993 style hydraulic rocker arms?

Porschephd 05-30-2004 07:04 PM

John,
BTDT on the 993 upgrade. Great stuff and fairly forward to do. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Great to see you on the boards!

FWIW I try to hit 1.5 on the SC cams. Also on any other stronger spring I use 36.5 to shim the springs. Stock I keep at 34.5.

Thought I would revive this interesting thread. I recently found out I have a Webcam 158. Anybody else running this CAM in there 930
