Carrera 3.0 teardown - good news
Just began stripping my recently acquired Carrera 3.0 longblock- condition totally unknown. So far only good news - after taking off the sump cover and one bank of heads with cam assembly there is no sign off any damage inside the motor at all. Also the experts on the board were correct once again - the cylinders are Nickasil.
When loosening the nuts on the head studs, one of the studs on the exhaust side screwed out of the case with the nut still on it. Is this a problem or does it just need to be reinserted int the case when the motor is rebuilt? All of the studs are magnetic so I am assuming that the Dilivar studs were replaced previously. Once I have the crankshaft out to make sure it is still good, and the signs so far are certainly positive, then I can decide on what configuration motor to build - 66*95 or 70.4*95 with Webbers, cams, high comp pistons and twin plug. |

Dilavar. Hmm, I think 1977 is when they started using them, but I can't remember. Maybe they used them for the early 1976 Turbos? I can't recall, and I'm too sleepy to look it up right now. ![]() -Wayne
