Oil Pump - is it good?

How freely should the oil pump turn by hand? Mine turns smoothly and has no visible signs of damage on the gears but is very "stiff" when turned over by hand.

Put it in your oven, and let it warm up to about 100-110 degrees. Then see if it turns okay. You can have a frozen pump, and then leave it out in the sun - turns freely within a half-hour. Remember, these are designed to be submerged in oil when the engine is started...
