CO and timing advance settings

I have an 83 SC USA motor with ROW CIS intake. Car is primarily used for DE. What is optimal CO and timing advance settings for best HP? Everything is stock except for GHL headers and muffler. Thanks in advance.

Hi John:

CIS offers VERY limited abilities to alter CO beyond idle, but I'd shoot for 2.5% CO using headers and low restriction mufflers. Without question, you should check your AFR's on a chassis dyno to make sure you are not too lean above 5000 at WOT.

Assuming that you are using 93 octane pump gas, stick with stock advance numbers so you do not inadvertently buy new P/C's,...

I may be a little lean as the car has been running on the hotter side at DE events. So this info is very good to know. I'll also keep my 3 mm allen as a mainstay track tool.

Have a good holiday
