Crush washer on engine case oil line adapter
I pulled my '77 930 engine and stripped off the exhaust to try to fix some oil leaks. One item that is leaking is the crush washer on the oil hard line adapter.
-What torque should I use on the adapter and hard line? By tighting the oil line, I think I may have overtightened the washer? -I previously used a 27mm crush washer of the same type as the oil drain plugs on this adapter. Size is the same, but the porsche part number for this washer is different from the oil plug washer - is there really a difference? (900.123.011.30 vs 900.123.011.20) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1088206280.jpg Thanks Colin |
When I was assembling my motor, I got in the habit of putting a light smear of teflon paste pipe sealant on threaded joints.
No leaks, no worries! |
It's difficult to over-tighten these and mess up the washer. I think it's the same part. Just get a new one and tighten it down. I don't have a torque spec handy, but it shouldn't take too much to get it to stop leaking...

Thanks guys. Wayne, I'm still trying to arrange transportation for the 915. I'll give you a call late next week about running down there myself if nothing comes up.

One technique to reduce leaks is to coat both sides of the crush washer with Loctite 574 and then install and tighten. If you loosen the joint in the future the 574 should be removed and reapplied. Jim

Great - I have some 574 left over from sealing the case. I will do that. Thanks Jim.
