Car not in neutral?

Hi,
Here is my rookie question for the day. Got the engine rebuilt, put it in car. Car rolls when puhing it. Put CV joints on, car no longer rolls??? Any ideas? I am awaiting a nut to connect my clutch cable.

Any thoughts on how I can move the car would be great. Is it now somehow in gear? Is there a way I can get it our without having the clutch cable on? I was hoping to fire it up today but not without being able to turn it around in the shop to point the muffler outside.

Thanks,
Derek

The trans must be in gear. You don't need the clutch to put it in neutral. Just make sure there is no tension on the driveline (Flat surface, breaks off), and it sould just come right out of gear. You might not be able to put it in gear without a clutch, but neutral is a piece of cake. I've driven a few cars without a clutch, but I would never recomend it. You'll have to turn the car around by pushing it.

Good luck,

JP

jack up the rear wheels with a floor jack placed under a board at the case seam. Since the floor jack is on rollers, just push the thing where you want it.

That won't help me start it without a clutch - thought of that one!
Thanks anyways...

You can start it in neutral with the clutch engaged. Old cars don't have that safety switch that disables the starter when the clutch petal is not depressed. Just make sure it really is in neutral.
