building the perfect 2.0S?
sometime in the near future (within the next year), i would like to replace the tired but dependable 2.2T engine that's in the car now. i need to start thinking about the next engine. i am seriously considering a 2.0S engine just because i want to keep the car "period correct" for personal reasons. so seeking the advice of the forum, help me spec it out: what year 2.0S, exhaust, watershields, etc. - all the small details would help. what parts will transfer over?
the engine will go into a car that is driven daily. on a side note - in the past i have seen a 2.0S built by henry's shop which was beautiful. henry you're on my list of options when the time comes. this would have been perfect but had to pay the paint job at the time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1088280019.jpg |
Bob, I lust after your car. What year S will you want to do? 67 or 69?
|
Bob are you going to run carbs or MFI? You could get away using a '69 (mag) case with that engine. Aluminum cases are getting really expensive (factory '67S case=$1000). Are you trying to get a factory S case or can it be 2.0S-spec on T/E case? Anyways, good used or new 2.0S P/C, either the heads you've got on your 2.2T or you can use 2.0 heads...for 2.0S you need 36/35mm ports. S cams (S MFI if you want to build a '69S engine), Weber 40IDT/IDA/IDS carbs (Do you have these on your 2.2T?), you could use the exhaust you have on your engine. You'd need to find a '69S MFI setup if you want to go MFI. Sorta pricey though. S rods if you're going to be revving it 7k+ all the time, regular rods if you're not (use your 2.2T rods or get some regular 2.0 rods), 2.0/2.2S crankshaft (any crankshaft from a 65-71 non T) and maybe SC oil pump. Starting w/ an early case you should do piston oil squirters and case savers, oil bypass modification, regular machine work...etc.
What happened to the 2.5? ;) |
scott - that's the input i'm looking for. i guess i should have mentioned that the car has weber 40 ida and dansk duel sport muffler. alum case would be nice but not necessary. i know dave from msraodandrace usually has them though i don't know what he charges. as for the 2.5...well i'm just all over the place. i saved your emails as part of my "research and possibilities". although i suspect you're going to be real busy with your new car.
BURN-BROS - many thanks. |
