3.2L Cylinders/Pistons NIKISIL?
Hello, Just purchased used a set of pistons & cylinders advertized as Nikisil, on the cyliders towards the bottom it is stamped (MAHLE) in raised lettering also on the other side the designation (95ZN1++ W13) . The inside of the cylinder still has the cross hatching visible. The pistons are still in thier perspective cylinders. There are also 11 fins.
I believe that Mahle also made alusil cylinders. I remeber hearing that some part of the cylinder should be magnetic? The inside of the cylinder does attract a magnet. I was told that they are USA spec, how do I verify copression? I purchased the book on engine rebuilding from Wayne, (what a great book) just started reading it. Any insite would be appreciated, Thanks, John P.S. Besides replacing the rings, and polishing the piston heads, is there anything else that should be done to the set? Thanks Johnny O |

they are nikasil if they are magnetic. you need to measure the pistons and cylinders to make sure they are in spec, the engine rebuilding book should cover all that.
If they are not in spec you will have to have them replated or bored and replated. If they are in spec, You should search in this forum for "hone nikasil"; there are differing opinions on how to reuse nikasil cylinders. If they are in spec you can for sure send them to a shop that knows how to hone them with a diamond hone, rennsport systems, competition engineering, and EBS Racing all know about this.
