Very nice. What kind of coating on the motor mount and fan-powder?

I even love the ARP packaging, the studs look very cool!

briankeithsmith 08-06-2004 03:48 AM

Yes powder. Unfortunately the guy didn't do it in the color that I wanted, but I couldn't really complain for the price I don't guess.

It was suppose to be about the same titanium metallic as the wastegate.

Watch out for that too!!!

thanks for the specs, Brian.

PO'd wife....

Mine NEVER has given me any static on what I've spent on my car. Out of courtesy, I told her that I was starting to buy parts, so she would know. She made the mistake of asking me what the total was going to be, and was not happy with my bogus low estimate-if only she knew what it was really going to cost. I'm glad I'm doing this a chunk at a time over the next few months. She pays my credit cards off every month, so now I've got to go to cash! I feel like I'm laundering money.

man...... that's a road i really don't want to go down with my current spouse
it's just not worth it:(
before i was married, every dime went into my cars
how the times have changed

ps rockin' engine..... i'd love to try a turbo one day!!!

hkspwrsche 08-11-2004 07:14 AM

Wow.. I take it it's not your first rebuild?

Harold

briankeithsmith 08-11-2004 08:24 AM

Yes, my very first! of any kind.... I've never even rebuilt a go-kart motor...

A good friend of mine that I went to college with helped me out though, and he's built numerous V8 race motors. Never a Porsche engine, but in reality it is all very similar in concept I guess.

Brian

KobaltBlau 08-11-2004 09:22 AM

did you rebuild it for performance only or were you having any problems with the motor?

briankeithsmith 08-11-2004 11:23 AM

Busted piston rings.

KobaltBlau 08-11-2004 12:51 PM

thanks brian. too much boost/detonation?

afterburn 549 08-11-2004 07:59 PM

very nice attn. to detail and a good job on the boat tailing too!!

briankeithsmith 08-12-2004 06:00 AM

Yes, car was overboosting to 1.2 bar, with a stock intercooler. Not a good combination.

So I'm going EFI to for fuel and ignition control, 25x10x3.5 custom intercooler, and big injectors.

Its been a heck of a project.

NICE JOB!!
HERE'S HOW WE DO IT. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092319762.jpg.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092319896.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1092319915.jpg

briankeithsmith 08-12-2004 07:57 AM

Thanks Henry. And thanks for the Threebond! I like that stuff.

Brian

afterburn 549 08-12-2004 08:52 AM

Am I seeing thing there or did you switch intake manifolds ?? if you did why??

briankeithsmith 08-12-2004 10:03 AM

Yes, switching to the Carrera manifold is common when converting a 930 to EFI. It flows better, has fuel rails, sockets for the injectors already built in. You port the heads to match the intake.

Guys:

I got my car back tonight from the fab shop with the new intercooler! Thought I'd share the pics...

Same link as before, but to make it easy, here is the link again:

And finally, IT RUNS! Last night we fired it up. AFR is high, so we've gotta make some program changes to the ECU, but it is running!

azasadny 08-23-2004 10:19 AM

Brian,
Beautiful engine! Congratulations!!

briankeithsmith 08-23-2004 10:37 AM

Thanks for the congrats but we had to pull it out. Read the post titled "All 6 Cylinder Base Gaskets Leak".

Brian

briankeithsmith 09-07-2004 04:19 PM

Dynoed the car today:
431.8 RWHP at around 5500RPM
407.7 ft/lbs of torque at 5000RPM

at 4500RPM have 340HP and 365 ft/lbs of torque.

Dynapack dyno that bolts to the hubs.

Halm 09-07-2004 04:48 PM

Brian, sorry I will miss you this week. Get the idle to settle down yet?

Halm 09-07-2004 04:52 PM

BTW, GREAT NUMBERS! About where you expected?

konish 09-07-2004 06:24 PM

Damn Henry, everytime you post a pic of a Supertec Motor it just makes me want to drop my motor and send it out to CA. Alas, I have always wanted to rebuild a 911 motor myself...however if cost/PIA ratio are close enough, perhaps a professional rebuild would be in the works...

Hal:

Pretty much what I expected man.
