1K Service after complete engine rebuild...

Hi gang,

It's nearing 1,000km's since my engine rebuild and I was wondering what's typically done at this 1K service?

I have stayed under 4Krpms religiously and not driven her under load at all.

Anyway, is it just an oil flush, new oil filter, check for leaks and check valve clearances, or more involved than that?

How much time does it typically take to check valve clearances?

Advice greatly appreciated.

You have covered what needs to be done. If you are checking the valves yourself and it is your first time, give yourself 3-4 hours. Once you do all of that, you can start running the engine up to redline.

OK thanks for clarifying. I won't run a synthetic oil just yet. I might go with a light-weight dino for a further 4,000km's and then run synthetic.

I'd also double check the head stud torques while the valve covers are off. Don't loosen and re-tighten, just check and tighten as necessary.

I have had ARP head-studs fitted. Could they loosen?

Not likely, but worth a check. If all is good, they won't turn at all, and your wrench will just click...

Thanks guys! BTW, what should the torque settings be for the head studs on a turbocharged Carrera engine?

Any recommendations for a really good lightweight Dino oil?
