SSI Heat Boxes -- Hardware required
 

To all -- I am putting SSI heatboxes on my rebuild and the pair I have obtained have thick flanges. I need advice as to what types of replacement studs and fasteners will work best as replacement for my old rusted original studs and nuts. If anyone could provide me with the specs on replacement studs (length and alloy) as well as any opinion on whether to use the oem barrel nuts or a crimp nut instead based on their experience. Finally, if someone could advise where to procure this hardware, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there. The exhaust barrel nuts are used because they are difficult to get to with a normal nut - I recommend using them for the six studs underneath the exchanger holes, and copper exhaust nuts on the rest. The studs, you can replace with OEM studs from our catalog. See the exhaust section for the exhaust nuts, and the cylinder heads section for all of the studs:

One other option to consider is to get studs that have allen key end (like a long grub screw) This can be insurance if you ever
need to replace them

if you plan on replacing the studs, you need to a search of previous threads. they don't just unscrew.

Did your car come with thick flange exchangers? If it came with thin, you may be better off just selling yours and buying the thin flange ones.

Did you have the machine work done on the heads yet? I just let Ted at German Precision replace my exhaust studs when he did my heads.

The cost is minimal, if there had been any problems, he had the skill and equipment to deal with it.

Anti-sieze is your friend.
