Now I'm really confused...
Ok, I need some definitive answers...
Is is possible to bor. a 95mm 3.0 cyl to a 98mm cylinder and replate. (alusil to nikasil) I was just advised of a 'sealing ring' on the 3.0 cyl. Any answers? Also, does anyone know if NEW 98mm "big bore" cyl's are bored to 98 or are the made at 98. In other words is the side wall of the cylinder lessened to make the 98's in the BB kit? I'm concerned somewhat about lessening the thickness of the 95mm cyl's with regard to cooling surface and longitevity. |
Factory 3.0 liter 95 mm cylinders cannot be bored out to 98mm The sealing ring between the cylinder and the head is in the way.
Factory 3.2 liter 95mm cylinders can be bored out to 98mm, as they have no sealing ring. The cylinders are interchangable between a 3.0 and a 3.2. The pistons are not interchangable, the wrist pin is a different size, and not in the same place relative to the dome. New Mahle 98mm cylinders start life as 95mm castings.
