assuming i have a 77 engine

the sticker on my 76 - 911 shows the distributor rotation as being counter clockwise. the distributor in reality rotates clockwise. the sticker on the on the fan says its a 77 motor. Was there a change in distributor rotation direction from 76 to 77? at first i assumed it was a late model drop in for the engine (76 body, 77 engine) but now it seems that there may have been an engine change at some point in it's life. opinions? Was there such a change of distributor rotation?
thanks

78-83 3.0 L engines the distributor rotates counter-clockwise (possibly the 3.3 turbos as well, not certain on this). All other 911 engines the distributor turns clockwise.

On the engine case at the base of the fan on the right side there should be some numbers, post what they are, and someone will tell you what engine you have.

ENGINE ID AGAIN

i doubt it's a european model. form what i can see the engine ser number indicates a 77. (#6271864). also has a 911/85 stamp. the distributor definitely turns clockwise. do most 2.7's and 3.0's turn counter? haynes says in its supplement that the counterclockwise distrib's didn't start till 1978. this is confusing. i really want to know for plug and tune-up specs. any help? this is the dreaded 1976 911S model. vin number indicates htis to be so. thanks for any help

That number is for a USA/Canada 77 911S. It's distributor is supposed to turn clockwise.

My guess is that the sticker was replaced with the wrong one.
