progress at last...and a dilema...
Whoo-ho...
The motor parts order went in today... Max Moritz 3.2's GT3 oil pump EBS cams And all the other stuff to build this motor... VERY COOL. Pics when I get it all... The Dilema... I have a set of 3.0 Alusil P/C's that are in good shape with one exception, one of the cyls has a gouge in it... Are they worth anything? |
Cool! Tell me more about GT3 oil pumps. Iam intrigued.
|
I may be wrong on the # it's either the gt3 or gt2... It's the one that isn't the pump in the 993... anyway... the pump just works really well. Since my stock pump has 200.000 on the clock I figured... new pump. The gt version puts out a serious amount of pressure and from what I gather is indestructable. The down side is the maching reguired to make it work with an older case. I had thought of a turbo pump, but after seeing the $$ of those, I could do the machining and the GT pump for about the same $$$ and have a better heart in the motor...

I'd love to see pics when you are able. Is it cast iron?
|
To be honest. I'm not sure... I did not ask. I'll be posting pics as things arrive and build begins...

Aaron, lil bit of info on that (GT-3 RSR) oil pump here:
http://www.rennsportsystems.com/2f.html Geof, congrats. what cam profile? 964? keeping CIS? |
Tanks Andy, that did the trick.
|
Are you doing anything to the ignition, or are you going to run stock system with the high comp pistons? Which cams?
|
First, a clarification on the oil pump... It IS a gt3 pump. Very large capacity, but requiring the case be modified.
I'm doing 964 profile cams to get a bit more duration and lift, but still be able to run CIS. I've gone back and forth with the ignition deal. I finally decided to keep the CIS, tune it well and go with it for now. Two reasons, I want to be able to street the car for the time being, and also cost. Eventually, we will do hotter cams and carbs or EFI... Budget is just a reality:( So, I chose to spend the $$$ on the motor and simply doing the whole deal basically new. I just got all of my fiberglass as well, so the body and motor will (hopefully) be timed about right. We will see. I'm shoot for a first run in Mar/April... With regard to comp ratio... Being this is a high altitude, I will be doing the 11.8:1 pistons. We'll detune the ignition (retard timing) somewhat to compensate, and I'll be running an MSD to allow the best run conditions for the altitude. The cost of twin plugging this motor is just outrageous as I would need to do the RSR version... $$$$ Wish me luck... This is my first full motor rebuild.:D |
