Newbie question about "T" vs. "E" pistons
I have a two-part question.
1. Will changing from a set of 2.2 "T" Pistons to a set of 2.2 "E" pistons give me any increase in power? 2. Will I have enough valve clearance with the "T" cams and "E" pistons? Thanks!

1. Without changing cams, you will not realize the full benefit of the increase in compression...but you'll probably notice some improvement.
2. There's no way to definitely say "yes" or "no", though I'd say "probably" since the T cams are not as hot as the E cams. You should definitely clearance the valves if you change pistons. It doesn't take long and is a good sanity check. Great opportunity to put in some E, Solex, or S cams, though, if you're bumping up to E pistons, especially if you're running the 70.4 mm crank. -dtw

Thanks dtw. The motor I'm buying is a good runner, so I probably won't pull it apart yet unless necessary. I appreciate the advice on checking valve clearance.

This last Apr '04, I had a set of new Mahle 2.4E P/C installed on my wife's 2.4T motor...
They worked out just fine. Only thing we noticed was a small increase in the torque...accd'g to the butt 'o meter... No huge gains for sure..... but we're happy with it ![]()
