The debate on oil will never, ever end I am convinced.
Run a synthetic if thats what makes you feel better.:) |
rons data is accurate.....it's been discused many times and he has the equipment to read this info realtime, so his words are wise. period.
my experience with synthetic compared to dino oil is this...... my carrera leaked with the synthetic in 3 spots, mainly due to older seals, switched to dino oil and the leaks went away. the dino oil also doesn't have the longevity of synthetic which requires more frequent oil changes, but at the lesser cost the more frequent changes don't hurt the wallet. while on drives where i'm above 3000rpm for a long period, oil temps haven't risen above 220f, and cylinders 2&5 spark plugs gaskets read 200f-250f. if my dino oil ever hits 250 i switch it. my 3.2 has never been apart other than for valve adjusts and is just ove 113,000 miles. compression is still good and even (don't have #'s in front of me), and there is equal amount of startup smoke with both the mobil1 and the castrol. although the oil is important....it is more important that it is changed frequently, because they both do the same job.......only dino oil doesn't make old seal leak. i'm more concerned that the oil is getting to where it needs to go....i.e. tensioners/valvetrain/etc. my opinion of course :) |
