I have searched and not found an answer....Are all 993 cylinder made of Nikasil? Are any made of aluminum? If they are Nikasil, are they all OK for honing?

993 cylinders are all aluminum with Nikasil-plated bores.

Ahhh....Steve, as usual a big thanks. Can they successfully be reused, honed or ported?

![]() ![]() I measure them for taper, concentricity, and surface finish. They can honed with diamond hones, however this should only be done as a last resort as that increases piston-to-cylinder clearance which is not desirable at all. One can always have them replated if that becomes necessary, but thats not cheap to do. Cylinders are not generally "ported" for engines that never see 7K RPM as its a waste of good money. (the correct terminology is "mooned", where the bottom sides are enlarged to match similar, matching case modifications.
