MSD Power Wire Routing
I've looked at a ton of the posts on MSD igintions and many have been helpful. In fact, everything is installed. My question is...Where do I route the Thick red wire from the starter into the engine compartment and over to the MSD ignition box? I don't want to melt a wire. Right now it runs from the starter up to the engine compartment (along the thick oil line hose) across the clips of the engine compartment sound pad and then back down to the MSD box. Is there a better route I can take? Thanks for the help.

that's similar as how i routed my thick red wire...
my msd is mounted on the lower end of the firewall , and the wire runs directly to my starter...can't put it any closer to the starter than that, it's it's a good mounting position since it's not in view, and you don't need to move anything else to mount it... |
We find that MSD ignition boxes don't like the heat so we mount them on the inside of the car. On a street car we put in under the drivers seat and on a race car on the firewall just below the package tray.
Good luck |
Thanks for the input. Should I encase the power wire in some sort of flex conduit? Or just leave it. Oh by the way... It's 83' SC wide body.
Thanks, Rick |
I ran a wire from the fuse panel down past the drivers foot blower under the seat rail then under the rear seat side panel and through the firewall near the fuel filter.. Kind of a pain to do but it is not exposed to heat or weather. I mounted the MSD on top of the air conditioning pump. It does not get too hot here since air is always moving past it.
