Alternative N.A. Motor For Carrera?

Somes friends were discussing, over a Friday beer, what you would do with the following requirements:
- A normally aspirated 911 motor to use in a Carrera
- Mostly street use, and occasional AX/DE
- Keeps heating and A/C, although components can be moved/changed
- Runs on pump premium and doesn't attract noise tickets
- Can be swapped with the stock 3.2L for smog tests

One proposal was a stock 3.6L from a 964/993.

At the other extreme, a 3.8L on a 3.6L case with individual throttle bodies, F.I., and Motec, sort of a detuned racer.

What would you suggest?

I've had a stock 3.6 liter 964 and a modified 3.8 liter 993RS in mine. Both are umm... adequate:)

Heat isn't a big issue, finding a class to race in is

Motec/TWM etc. are also very nice but also very expensive. How nice can you afford?

get another 3.2, build it to a 3.4 keep the stock induction but use the plastic manifold, lighter and smoother. throw some wilder cams on it and raise the CR a bit and get a custom chip from Steve Wong. Or just try to push it to the limits with the stock engine.

On the same page as the 3.2 to 3.4, you could do a 3.5 conversion, just requiring some machining to the case to allow for the oversized skirts. Just an idea :-)

if you wanna spend 10k i say keep the car, throw some money towards suspension, get 3.4 p&c's, plastic 3.2 intake, steve wong chip, wilder cams and drive the crap out of it. oh and bore out the throttle body

Keep it stock and buy some seat time. Then upgrade the suspension and buy more seat time. Add some safety stuff and still more seat time. YMMV
