I just installed my engine and trans in my 1980 sc, and now realize that I have the clutch fork pressed against the TOB. Can I slide the trans back enough to correctly install the fork in the TOB without removing the engine or do I need to remove the engine and trans and correct on the ground ?
Thanks in advance, Joe |

it will have to be removed from the car. no room to slide it back enough.

JW. I'm pretty sure you can slide the motor back far enough on the studs (oil lines permitting) to move the shift fork can't you?!

it was kind of early when i posted that. the engine can be lowered as if to remove it, while leaving the trans in the car. disconnect pretty much everything from the engine and slide off the shift coupler so the shift rod doesn't get bent. lower enough so the fan housing clears the rear frame crossmember and wiggle it back off the trans a couple of inches. watch the fork and t/o bearing interface thru the hole on top of the trans with a mirror and flashlight. requires a jack pad/plate that can tip back on an angle for best results, and some way to keep the engine from sliding off the jack pad. otherwise just drop the eng/trans and do it on the ground.
