Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I am currently removing my engine. Everything is disconnected except one thing. How do I remove the throttle linkage between the MFI and the connection on the gearbox? Philip 2.4T Targa Belgium |

the connection between the transmission link and the MFI linkages on top of the engine don't need to be removed until the engine is removed. THe connection from the gas petal to the transmission DOES need to be disconnected. Just crawl under the car and it'll be on the drivers side (of a LHD car) of the transmission. Just pop it off and you should be set to go.

if you're leaving the trans in the car, lower the engine a bit and pop off the ball socket with needlenose pliers from over the top. disconnect the shift coupler if the trans stays in, so nothing bends or breaks.

so this ball and cup arrange comes apart with a little pressure? I'm right in the middle of this now. While I'm on how does the reverse light switch disconnect. My visibility and accessibility to it is very poor. I'm considering supporting the tranny and removing the brace to get at these. Is this a good idea? I'm in the middle of removing the engine/trans combination 73T 2.4 MFI

you can leave the reverse switch connected. the wires run back up and join in the harness along with the oil pressure and starter wires. just make sure none of the heater flapper box cables have been intertwined.
disconnect the speedometer cable by loosening the aluminum hex head. (right next to the reverse switch) with the ball and sockets, just use an 8mm open end wrench to pry/pop it off. a word of advice... measure again, and include your jack or dolley height this time, to ensure that you have the back end of your car high enough to roll out the engine without interfering with the rear valence... i messed it up last time... matt |
