which oil pump for my 930 build?

Im thinking about replacing the oil pump in my 930 engine as its looking a bit scored and there are small nicks on the gears. someone over here has told me that gt3 pump is about the best pump that i can use but there are case mods needed. is this necessary? would a new 930 pump be more than adequate? also, pelican don't seem to sell anything other than the carrera pump. is this ok for the 930? i thought the 930 pump was a bigger pump. are they now not available?

The 930 pump is one of the better pumps, but I'm not sure how it compares to the GT3. I choose to keep mine for my rebuild and I'm building a pretty wild engine. You should be able to get it rebuilt, but I'm not sure about the availability of parts.

cheers David, my pump may well be ok but im so paranoid about puting something less than a1 in the case that im thinking of just getting a new one for peace of mind. im in so deep now that i dont think that the cost of a new pump is going to stop me! (bloody porsches!)

I know what you mean about being in so deep Another Pcar owner at work mentioned that I could buy a really nice 993 for what I've got in my car and engine rebuild. Here in Texas we have no emissions testing for cars over 24 years old, so that's how I justify spending soooo much on an old car.

Put a new 930 pump in it. I am sure even your old one might be fine. Oil pressure is more a function of bearing clearance than pump abilities. The 930 pump was the best oil pump porsche made, until the GT3 pump.

There have been cracking problems with the 964 and 993 pumps. I don't recall hearing any problems with the GT3 pump.

If you are building a monster turbo motor, then by all means a new gt3 pump is not much more in $$$ and is probably a wise choice.

Just my $0.02

I contemplated this question while I had mine apart too. Ended up putting it back, even with over 100,000 miles the old pump still has plenty of pressure.

EBS in Nevada can rebuild your oil pump, they also port and polish for better flow. Did mine was alot cheaper than a new one, I have excellent oil pressure, good guys to deal with.
