She's Done. 3.8 RSR

After a very trying engine rebuild, she is done. This is a 3.8 RSR engine. Many thanks to Franz at FBR. I will be breaking it in at Road Atlanta next weekend. Sorry if it is a little dark, but oh well. I still check with this form about once a week.

Paul, Great looking engine. I am sure many here will want details on the internals and ancillaries. I know I do.

I hope your break-in goes smoothly.

Very nice, How about some details of the engine and the car?

RACER911RS 10-26-2004 01:44 PM

Well, the cylinders are 109mm Mahle's. The pistons are by Streck. Porsche no longer uses the Mahle pistons. We did not know this until we ordered from Germany. Due to all the problems with this engine it was taken down all the way. Good thing because the main bearings were 50% shot after only 25 hours on the engine. The car is a 91 cup car brought up to 94 specs. Management is provided through MoTec. Fuel injectors sent out and mapped. Don't know what else anyone would like to know. The engine is so wildly tuned that on the dyno before the engine rebuild, at 4K rpm it was putting out about 130 HP. 325HP at 7K. Below 4500 the car just coughs and spits. The dyno is the one they bolt up to the axles.
So for the first session during break in I need to keep the car between 4500 and 6K and with 6 speeds. Man, try to say DIFFICULT.

Pistons should be around 102mm w/the stock 76.4m stroke. Spiggots would have been bored to 109mm.

Rods?

cam specs?

I know that the RSR's like to be revved.:)

RACER911RS 10-26-2004 02:41 PM

Bill,

Rods - We went with the 930 balanced and polished. Since I had a set and FBR used these rods with cars producing over 500hp with the factory teams, he saw no problem.

Cam specs - ??. The only thing said is "racing" format.

I bet you enjoy your 3.8RS.

That is one crazy looking intake system. Who makes that?

Tinker,

I am not sure who makes the intake system. As you can see Pipercross makes the filters for the intake. Basically, someone takes the stock intake and cuts it in half. Needless to say, I get plenty of air.
I know this was done in Europe before the car came here to the states.

I never would have expected you to have normally aspirated fantasies.

oh so tasty looking. The intake setup is pretty interesting, kinda suprised no one here has lopped off half of an intake and done a setup like this. Very sweet motor
