Used Mahle Pistons
 

Having just completed a rebuild on the 3.0 SC engine, there were two pistons that had broken lands between the top rings.

Since I hate to throw anything away, and since I have new Mahle P&C in the rebuilt engine, what can I do with my 4 good pistons? The cylinders are okay, and can be re-used, but if I can find matching pistons for the ones that have the broken lands, couod I use them in another project engine? Does anyone have just two pistons?

It might be fun to keep practicing in another rebuild, say a 2.7 rebuilt to a 3.0, or some such thing.

ARe your used pistons nikasil or alusil? If alusil you can have them rebored and plated with nikasil. buy some JEs and away you go.

The other option is to find two pistions in the same size and weight group as your broken ones. This will create a complete set. Just make sure the cylinders are within spec before going this route, it would make for an expensive paperweight collection.

The 3.0 PC set will not fit a 2.7. Different stud spacing. They will only fit the 3/3.2 case and also the C3.0. But there are other considerations if you want to go that route.

I was not planning to use the 3.0 P&C in a 2.7 motor so much as thinking that I might want to build a nice motor for a Beck's Spyder or Beck's 904. Now wouldn't that be a gas!

And if I can find nice cheap motor parts, perhaps utilizing others' "throw-aways" (such as two additional pistons to replace my broken ones), then it'll be a fun project after the meticulous rebuild I did for my SC.

Anyone got ywo used 3.0, 98 mm pistons you'd part with?

3.0 uses 95mm pistons. Make sure you get the correct weight and height group. Also the same compression ratio. The numbers will be on the pistons.
