Do I need to machine these cylinders

I have all cylinders off the car and they appear in good condition except the gland for the cylinder/head seal. The outer most race has "dimpling" on the bottom edge on most all cylinders.

Only had one broken head stud and all other studs seemed sufficiently tight. My records don't indicate any prior head stud work by the previous owner.

These are the kinds of questions that are hard to answer. You'll have to make a judgment yourself or send the cylinders out to a shop to have them evaluate and machine if needed. If the sealing area doesn't appear to have leaked then I'd be tempted to not have them machined. You can never be wrong to machine them for piece of mind though. If you machine them you may need thicker base gaskets.

When in doubt, ALWAYS send it to a competent machine shop for an opinion based on measurements and experience.
