P222 and P221 Chain and rod support tools make my own? Any one have a close-up pic?

I see in Wayne's book I can make my own. I can see them pictured in the book but not close-up , but I'd like a close up picture if any one has one or two.

Also where do the bottom of the support legs sit? Pictures?

Thanks!

I made mine out of cardboard and they worked just fine. I believe his book has the measurements of the tools. Once you make them it is fairly self explanatory of how they are used.

I used some thin gauge sheet metal (the thinner the better) and made them to the drawings in the book. I'd go take a picture but they look just like in the book.

OK, but I see the picture in the book, but I can't tell for certain where the "tools" are, especially the one that's holding the chain.

Actually, I didn't use the one for the chain. I just let them hang loose and didn't have any problems.

Does that mean holding the subject chain by hand until the halves are just about to mate?

Also on the adjacent page photo 3-19 the chain is also in the air but no support is shown????

I went out to the garage and checked my tools. I did infact make a chain holder. It has 15" legs with a 1/2" flat at the top. I put the feet on the sprocket to hold the chain up.

I use 12 gauge wire. You need about a foot. Strip the outer insulation and use the individual wires. Shape them into an inverted V, with the top bent to go through the top of the rod. The bottoms just go into the case next to the rods with friction holding them in place.

The best solution I have seen for the rods is rubber bands.

He has been asked to do this a number of times. For whatever reason, he appears to want to remain anonymous.

Nevermind...

Yes, I did awhile back.

Look very carefully, the green arrow is pointing to the support. I positioned that arrow so it's pointing *exactly* at the tool (under the chain, lifting it up in the air). See also 3-21 for more clarity.

Hmm, odd request. I can't get any closer than photo 3-17 on page 130. See the dimensions in that photo...

P.S. The factory now charges like $300 for these?!?

Hmm, that's clever, but the whole point of these rod tools is to support the rods *before* you put the case half together...

Odd? I've been over those photos. I cannot see for instance where exactly the "bottom" ("legs") of the chain holder is suppose to rest. It's inside the chain correct?, but where do the "legs" rest?

And the "legs" for the rods, do I assume they just sit in the case?

Thanks

Here is an excellent video of the use of the P221 from KURT DONOHOE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMNOKt0AaBQ

See time line at approximately 7:45

Baum tools no longer produces the P221 connecting rod holding tools.
Stromski Racing sells the P222 chain holding tool.

Does anyone have a P221 tool they would like to sell? Please let me know.

Just make your own out of 1 inch banding material used to hold bigger stuff to pallets.

Literally free, it goes into the dumpster or recycle bin when it's cut off.
