3.6 rebuild completed
I started this project around the beginning of October. This is an early 964 motor with the gasket-less cylinder head mating so I changed out the pistons and cylinders and had the heads machined by Supertec for the later style sealing rings.
The 3.8 liter pistons and cylinders are from FVD and they are designed for turbo conversions. Cams are stock 964. Rods are 930 with ARP rod bolts. Wayne, your 911 rebuild book is simply incredible--my hat's off to you. And of course this forum and its members are priceless. Interesting. The commonly accepted knowledge is that you can't use a 964 distributor on a turbocharged engine because the second half of the distributor is in the way of the turbo plumbing.
It looks like your pipe from the turbo passes forward of the heater ducking on the left side, is this correct? What are you using for exhaust? Thanks, Tom |
This setup uses the stock 964 headers. The turbo mounts where the cat converter usually goes. Here's a better pic:

The blower fan was removed and replaced with the factory "cup bypass." The airbox is deleted and replaced by a K&N filter that mounts directly to the hot film air meter--wasn't mounted when I took the picture--which feeds the turbo through the big black tube. This setup is much like the Ruf 964 turbos except they retain the blower motor and the stock airbox. -doug |

Impressive. Doug is being way too modest. He doesn't mention that he also reverse engineered and rewrote the software for the DME to support the Turbo...

3.6 Turbo kit
3.6 Turbo kit looks great ! How is running and how does it perform? Also I was wondering about the fuel managment,does it use a chip with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Thank-you and let me know I have been talking to Todd about getting one of these kits for my car

Thanks...the car runs great I must say.
I reprogrammed the ECU on this car for larger injectors and the newer hot film MAF senser. The fuel pressure regulator has been replaced with a bosch adjustable one. The car has not seen more than .5 bar boost since the rebuild. The wastegate I'm using has a 9 psi spring in it at the moment and I plan to add an electronic boost controller in a few weeks--I'll post the results. Todd Knighton is a very sharp guy. He does some incredible things without a fancy color catalog or boutique sports-wear--my kind of guy! -doug |
