Sealant at #8 bearing, can you specify the exact parts and locations please?

From all the search threads, I need some part location definitions for what is defined as, "no. 8 bearing", in the case of the following please:

For sealant location at #8 bearing are we talking of:

1. The O ring?

2. The front insert seal (front of barrel at the pulley)?

3. The actual entire no #8 nose barrel? (Do you smear sealant all over the entire barrel?)

4. Where the case halves meet at this "nose barrel"?

5. And what is the meaning in terms of exact location of "where the case halves meet at #8 bearing"?

And/or any combination of the above.

You shouldn't need any sealant on the o-ring that fits around the nose bearing, if your case has been inspected, and is round at this point.

That said, it doesn't hurt to put a little Curil-T around the edges of the front pulley seal when you install it. You can also put a very light amount on the o-ring in the nose bearing. Use it lightly though.

Someone on this board was talking about using the later-style o-ring which is thicker than the early style one, to prevent leaks. I don't recommend this, and I have heard of this backfiring when the o-ring gets pinched or distorted upon assembly (search the archives, there's at least one full-teardown story about this).

Yes, OK.

(And I read most of the archived posts. And most of all the different sealant debates. I think it was one who was talking of a type of sealant in the area, and I wasn't certain as to what specific locations in this area was meant regarding "the case halves in this area.") ...and do I assume no one means on the bearing barrel itself?

Thanks

Yes, that's a safe assumption to make...
