I noticed when preparing to JB weld the plugs (pp. 126-27), that where I cleaned, the case looks bright new? Should I sand the entire outside of the case halves, or is this something not worth it, i.e. will tarnish quickly anyway?

(Case is a 1969 mag case)

Thanks

It is mag and will tarnish quickly. No point. Just needs to be clean, clean, clean. As a reference, I spent about 16 hours cleaning my case after it had already spent about 24 hours in an industrial dishwasher.

All of this is for naught, of course, if your case is garbage. You DID have your case measured for main bearing bore tolerances, didn't you? Did you make any of the standard upgrades mentioned in this forum and Wayne's book? Oil bypass upgrade, head stud inserts, layshaft bearing upgrade, etc.

Nope - only clean the areas where you're going to place bonding agent...
