Please allow me to ask a silly question , no two... okay three.
1. Cannot remember if it is possible to replace the connecting rod big end bearings without splitting the case.. 2. Budget restraints reqire me to either re-ring or forget it.. what are my chances of getting new piston rings to seal? 3. Some bonehead previously managed to completely crush closed one of the hard oil lines under the car... can it be repaired? spliced with reinforced hose??? 1981 911SC Targa Weinrotmetalic/ Black 94K miles,, no smoke, engine appears clean inside, lots of broken lower case studs... Thanks in advance Regards, Scott |

1. You can replace the big-end bearings without splitting the case. Just don't drop any parts in there! Its a bit dicey to get the torque's done and certainly nearly impossible to use the stretch method for ARP style bolts, but I've replaced them this way.
2. Magic 8-Ball sez: Chances are Good. Seriously there are some good threads on this and people have had success. Enough that I would feel comfortable doing it, even though the fix if ti doesn't work is a teardown. 3. I'd replace it or you could take it to a shop, have the offending section cut out, and re-brazed if budget is an issue.

However: (this thought came after SUBMIT)
If your rod bearings are worn, don't you also suspect the main bearings?

Are your cylinders Nikasil?? I re ringed mine and have a 2% leakdown, so I guess they seated! Only do the rod bearings if you are useing factory bolts. Next to impossible to measure stretch on aftermarket ones. Get a used oil line.

9.8:1 with 93 octane is okay, but close. Any less octane or any more compression will not be okay on hot days. Not exact science here, but this is a fairly accepted range.
