Just bought and read Wayne's Book "How to rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 engine.

If there is a porsche owner out there who does not have one this is a must have Book to understand your car's engine.

Ditto!! One of THE most comprehensive technical 'How-to' guides I have ever read, and being in the business, I've read many!!

Makes my foray into P-car engine building/modifying a lot more comfortable.

Tom Woodford (expert engine rebuilder - 760-731-7535) as well as a whole host of others helped me to put out that book. My editor at MBI deserves a lot of credit for helping to prevent NOTHING from being cut by the marketing bean counters!

What I liked the most about this book was the mentoning that you want to install the

oil-ring with the gap facing towards the top of the engine

- to help against oil leakage when engine is not running.

I bet this is overlooked many times, thats why some engines smoke more - some less - during startup.

I learned something and it feels great.

In reality, the oil rings rotate in their bores over many miles - I like to tell people to start them in the up direction, as it will at least minimize the effect until they start to rotate significantly.

Too bad about your 2.7 - I hope that Mike wasn't involved...

Amen! Thank your editor again for me for not letting the bean counters dictate content or lack thereof.

Just keep up the good books. I'll get the transmission book also even though I've already attended Jerry Woods tranny class.

Let's see, what can come after that? Maybe a whole series of books by Wayne with input from many of the "Experts" that frequent the board:

1. Race car preparation and tuning
2. Driving tips for autocross, time trials, and road racing
3. Paint and body work on 911's
4. Designs for homebuilt tools and jigs useful for 911
5. What NOT to do to a 911 (complete with pictures)
6. ???????
7. ???????
