What's with "six" "items" in ring land per old piston? New with 3

Old pistons had 6 items per piston.
A. One upper comp. ring,
B. two items in second ring area, and finally
C. 3 items in the third land.

New rings have only two upper, and one "spring ring".

Question: with the new third "spring" oil ring, how does the spring install with the ring? Does the spring stretch with the ring during install?

Yes, the new rings are Goetze. I'm trying to visualize the oil control ring, how the spring behaves when you attempt to slide the ring on the piston.

Does the oil spring expand along with the ring?

Or does the spring have to be rolled down the piston with the ring?

( The two compression rings look easy.)

See the instructions in the engine book - the oil ring is installed with the spring inside...

I looked at that before the post, but I could not see where the spring seperated (so small).

Good point. Wayne I have a legit crititism of your book. One I hope you can fix if you reprint it, MAKE THE FIGURES, PICTURES, LARGER! Please.
