Thermostat as seen through the oil cooler holes I should see ?
With the oil cooler off, just wanted to confirm that I should see one of the open staggard notches in the thermostat, when looking through the upper cooler holes.
And is there a technical term for the staggard "open notches" in the thermostat? Thanks |
After all these years I just learned that the oil cooler thermostat is "idiot compensating" - the studs are offset such that you can't put it in backwards.

Yes, I read about that awhile ago in the Haynes manual, but because I've not installed the thermostat since some time ago, I could not recall the tightness of the fit. I still would like to know if one of the staggard "slots" can be seen through the oil cooler hole when the cooler is off, as I have my cooler off and this would make nice double confirmation. |
There was a very good thread earlier on thermastats, and there failures, I checked mine in boiling water like so well described with pictures in that thread , and found it to be inop. brought new checked in boiling water worked fine> Fritz
