What carrera 3.0 case takes the early crank
I think the carrera 3.0 case like the early turbo case take the early 70.4 crankshaft. Does anyone have info on this case and its benifits? Whats the spigot size and the cylinder stud spacing? What years were they made? Does any one have a p/n? I want to build a 3.0 mfi and was curious if this case is any better than the sc case?? Thanks for any information!!

for a 3.0 motor, then I can't see any reason why you would want a carrera case over an SC case. The SC case uses a different flywheel and the flywheel end of the crankshaft/case is different than the carrera cases. The carrera cases are great for making a 2.8L motor (66x95) since they can use the 2.0-2.7 cranks but the SC cases can't.
The spigot size and stud spacing is exactly the same as an SC case. For adapting MFI to a 3.0 the only thing that you would need is the MFI takeoff on the 1,2,3 cam, and drill and tap the heads for the injectors. The rest is external, so both an SC motor and a 3.0 carrera motor will suffice as a starting point |
The 70.4 crank in the SC is far superior to the 3.0 Carrera or 2.4/2.7 crank. For my money the only good use for the 3.0 Carrera case is the short stroke 2.8.
Because I build a good number of short stroke 2.8 engine I am always looking to buy or trade SC cases for 3.0 Carrera / 3.0 Turbo cases. |
