What's the problem?? looks as if it is running lean and or fuel additives for the coloration

cstreit 01-14-2005 06:30 AM

Lean... ...or possibly race gas.

no problem, just wanted to see if all that white coloration means anything, I'm a novice about engines. We're putting SSI's on, and I wanted to learn more. So I thought I would ask. Thank you

the other look nearly the same except for #6 it is not nearly as white...we didn't really think there is a problem, but we wanted to make sure that these looked fairly normal for a 100k mi. car.

Thanks

How do the plugs look?, SSI's might worsen an already lean condition... I for one don't like white valves or plugs in my motors.

White is typically lean, but not always. Lean is a bad condition for a 911 motor, if anything you want them running on the rich side. When the car is running lean, it will tend to run hot, which can lead to all sorts of problems. Here you see a valve that probably runs very hot...

Have your mixture checked with an O2 meter like this one:
