Replace '89 930 Oil Pump?
I'm recently rebuilding my '89 930 engine. #3 connecting rod bearing spun on the crank. Enough metal traveled through the crank bearings to justify a new crank...The oil pump seems fine, rotates freely, what I can see of the gears looks ok, and I can't see any noticable damage.
My first question. How do you determin if the oil pump requires replacing? My second question. Should I invest in a new oil pump considering metal went through it? If so, where can you find them? I've only seen the Carrera oil pumps for sale. Thanks, Chad |

Take it apart. If the gears and housing are intact reuse it, if not replace it. Post detailed pics of any questionable damage and we will be happy to post our opinions.
If the pump only chewed on soft bearing fragments its possible it might be OK after a little R&R. |

I'll look at it again, but it almost looked like it couldn't be pulled apart. Either way, I'll provide pics.

It comes apart, trust me. Four studs and eight nuts hold it together.
